Pamukkale and Salda Lake Tour from Alanya is a nature and culture tour to the magnificent Salda Lake, known as the Maldives of Türkiye, and Pamukkale, which is on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
Our first stop, Lake Salda , is located approximately 285 km northwest of Alanya. Lake Salda, Turkey’s cleanest lake, is also one of the deepest (184 meters). It’s estimated that Lake Salda formed approximately 2 million years ago. Its water is slightly salty and highly alkaline. Lake Salda has preserved its natural beauty due to its location among the mountains, away from the main roads of Burdur, Denizli, and Antalya. Lake Salda Nature Park boasts a stunning combination of white sandy beaches, pine and juniper-covered forests, and clear blue skies. The white sands that make Lake Salda so alluring are reminiscent of the Maldives. For this reason, it’s known as the Maldives in Turkey. You’ll have the opportunity to walk and swim on Lake Salda’s sandy beach.
The second stop on the Salda Lake and Pamukkale tour departing from Alanya is Pamukkale , world-famous for its calcium terraces , and the adjacent ancient city of Hierapolis. Pamukkale, meaning “Cotton Castle” in Turkish, is located approximately 365 km from Alanya. Visited by millions of local and international tourists each year, Pamukkale is one of Turkey’s major tourism centers. Its magnificent white appearance, like that of Pamukkale, was formed when thermal spring waters from the depths met with the cold air, leaving a calcium deposit. The thermal waters, at a temperature of approximately 30 degrees Celsius, are said to be beneficial for certain ailments. You can swim, walk, and take wonderful photos on Pamukkale’s terraces.
The ancient city of Hierapolis was founded by the Pergamum people in the 2nd century BC. Meaning “holy city,” Hierapolis experienced its heyday during the Roman period. Philip, one of the Apostles, lived here, making it an important site for Christians. The surviving city ruins are spread over a vast area. Among the ruins are the ancient theater, street columns, ancient cemetery, and sarcophagi, which are intriguing and worth seeing.
The Ancient Cleopatra Thermal Pool is located just above the Pamukkale terraces and below the ancient city of Hierapolis. Like Alanya Cleopatra Beach, it takes its name from the Egyptian Queen Cleopatra, who is said to have swam here. Inside the pool are columns and wall fragments from the ancient city that were eroded by natural events. The pool’s thermal water, which remains at 36 degrees Celsius in both summer and winter, is known to have healing properties. Legend has it that swimming in the pool rejuvenated those who had bathed there in the past. You can swim in the Ancient Cleopatra Pool for a fee.
